Asus aimed to create not only the best gaming phone, but also an all-round flagship. The Asus ROG Phone 8 series has been redesigned to be more user-friendly as a daily driver. The phone comes in three versions (actually four), but the differences are mostly cosmetic. The new ROG Phone is thinner and lighter, measuring 8.9mm and weighing 225g, compared to 10.3mm and 239g for the ROG Phone 7. It comes with a reduced battery capacity to 5,500mAh (down 500mAh), but optimized hardware. still offers nearly the same battery life as last year's model. The screen is the same as last year at 6.78 inches, but the new panel has thinner bezels.
However, this Fax Lists comes at the expense of switching to a punch-hole camera (previously the selfie camera was placed on the top bezel). On the positive side, the new model is 173.0mm longer and 77.0mm wider compared to 163.8 x 76.8 for the old model. The new screen has the same 165Hz refresh rate as before, but it uses an LTPO panel so it can also switch to a variable refresh rate between 1Hz and 120Hz. Peak brightness has been increased to 2,500 nits. Asus ROG Phone 8 comes with SD 8 Gen 3, telephoto camera and IP68 rating Asus is promoting the ROG Phone 8 as the first water-resistant phone - it's rated IP68 (compared to IP54 on its predecessor). Gaming phones prioritize cooling, which means little waterproofing.
The ROG Phone 7 Pro had an AeroActive port that enabled convective cooling, but the 8 series uses conduction cooling instead. This is done with a copper block that goes through the motherboard and touches the back panel. Here, the heat is transferred to the air or even better, to the new AeroActive Cooler X. It is 29% smaller (volume) and 10% lighter, making it easier to carry. As a cooler, it has a larger contact area (2.6x), runs the fan faster (1.1x), and has a higher thermal efficiency (1.2x), which ultimately contributes to much better cooling. Asus ROG Phone 8 comes with SD 8 Gen 3, telephoto camera and IP68 rating The cooled chipset is of course the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.
